Message from the Director General (NACT re-opening)

The National Art Center, Tokyo, which was closed from the end of February to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, has re-opened in June.
It is a great pleasure for all the staff to finally have re-opened NACT's doors.
While the NACT has been closed, organization and management of the exhibitions that were planned for 2020 through 2022 underwent reviewing and rearranging, carrying out a significantly changed exhibition schedule for 2020. During the more than 3 months that NACT's art activities were forced to be canceled or postponed, a lot of effort has been put to offer online alternatives.
However, it was during those days that brought the realization that the experience of going directly to venues and enjoying the arts through the five senses is essential for us who, ultimately, have a physical body.

From June 11 the NACT re-opened with the Nature in Japan and the Spirit of "Sho" "200 Selected Works by Japanese Calligraphers" exhibition, followed by the Timeless Conversations 2020: Voices from Japanese Art of the Past and Present exhibition starting June 24 and the MANGA ⇔ TOKYO exhibition starting August 12.
As measures to prevent crowding, an Advance Reservation System for "specified date/time tickets" has been implemented, visitors' temperature will be taken when entering the building, and the maximum number of visitors has been restricted to allow social distancing. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.
I hope that as many people as possible will again be able to enjoy NACT's various exhibitions in a spacious and quiet environment.
