About NACT Learning

The NACT organizes various programs consistent with its overarching agenda of “being an art center and a site of participation, interaction, and creativity.” In addition to lectures, artist talks, and symposiums which are held in conjunction with exhibitions to provide audiences with an enriched experience about the exhibited art works, the NACT also produces supporting materials mainly for children that help deepen their appreciation of the exhibitions. The NACT also invites instructors from various areas relating to art to take part in events such as workshops where participants can think about and experience art from various perspectives, youth projects targeted toward teenagers, and architecture tours which introduce the features and functions of the art center’s architecture.Furthermore, the NACT focuses on programs which target schools and educational institutions and human resource development programs such as internships.

Lectures and Symposiums

The NACT organizes programs such as lectures, symposiums, and artist talks that are related to its exhibitions. Furthermore, the NACT has held symposiums and forums in education and public programs as well as programs for the collection of information and documents, which are the foundation of NACT’s activities. Recently, these lectures and symposiums have been held online or in a hybrid format, and we also stream archival video recordings.

The NACT invites instructors from various fields, such as contemporary art, fashion, and design, to its artist workshops where the instructors, together with the participants, think about and experience art from a broad perspective. During the summer holidays and long public holidays, the NACT also organizes popular workshops held in free, public spaces within the building where people of all ages can easily enjoy a creative experience. Furthermore, the NACT also organizes programs which focus on the appreciation of art works, including an interactive art appreciation workshop and an art appreciation workshop created together with the visually impaired.

Youth Project

Starting in 2022, the NACT established its own youth project with the aim of creating a space for thinking and learning about “expression” together with teenagers who will be living their lives in this new era. With artists acting as their guide, the six-month program provides teenagers between ages thirteen and eighteen with the opportunity to rediscover their surroundings, expand their perspective of the world, and experience the joy of expressing oneself.

Architecture Tour

The NACT’s building is well known for its distinctive exterior consisting of an undulating glass curtain wall. The building was constructed in collaboration by the architect, Kishio Kurokawa, and NIHON SEKKEI INC. With the cooperation of NIHON SEKKEI INC., the NACT has been organizing architecture tours since 2017. The tour involves taking a walk inside and outside the building and introducing the features and functions of the building. Furthermore, the NACT also provides the “Kids’ exploration tour” every year for elementary school children.

School Programs

The NACT organizes art appreciation guidance and architecture guidance for schools and educational institutions. Furthermore, the art center invites schools located in neighboring areas to visit the art center on closed days through the “Tuesday at the NACT” program and holds programs such as job interviews, work experience, and teacher training which are available at all times.

Internship and Volunteers

The NACT accepts student interns and volunteers each year with the aim of deepening their understanding about the NACT’s activities and contributing to the development of young talent who will support the art center in the future. The program provides interns with a highly professional work experience, and many interns go on to work in museums, research institutes, and organizations related to art. Furthermore, student volunteers also contribute greatly to the NACT through their participation in a wide range of activities which include supporting the management of events, acting as guides for architecture tours, and organizing documents.
