Internships and volunteer opportunities

Internships

The National Art Center, Tokyo, accepts university students and young researchers as interns each year in order to foster a greater understanding of the NACT’s activities and contribute to the development of fresh human resources who will support art museums in the future. In addition to the conventional disciplines of art and art history, the kinds of expertise demanded by the art museum of today is expanding to encompass a broad array of fields, including learning program, material research and investigation, and public relations. Aiming to be an open art museum, the National Art Center, Tokyo recruits interns from a diverse variety of fields in addition to the traditional, providing a space in which participants can experience the real world of the art museum. Many who completed the intern program are now active in art museums, research institutions, and organizations involved in the fine arts, contributing to the research, development, and promotion of art and culture.

* The NACT accepts applications for internship programs only between every December and January. Internship programs always last a year; April to March.
(Information and application forms available only in Japanese).

Support staff (volunteers)

The National Art Center, Tokyo’s support staff program is for students with an interest in museum activities. In addition to providing an opportunity to experience work in an actual museum, it is also a broad-based appeal for support of our activities. Since the program’s inception in 2006, each year numerous undergraduate- and graduate-level students have been registered as support staff, assisting the operation of lectures and workshops, serving as architectural tour guides, and working in a variety of other situations in the NACT.

The National Art Center, Tokyo’s support staff come from different universities, are of differing years, and are studying different subjects. Their reasons for having applied are also diverse. They expand the scope of people who support the NACT and are a significant resource.
