To coincide with the grand opening of Keiichi Tanaami's first major retrospective exhibition, “Keiichi Tanaami: Adventures in Memory,” a symposium will be held with international professionals who have witnessed and studied Tanaami’s creative journey over the past 60 years.

Tanaami's works are now in collections in major museums such as MoMA, the Art Institute of Chicago, and M+ (Hong Kong). With an increasing number of collaborations with fashion brands and musicians in Japan and abroad, Tanaami’s creativity has become widely recognized in recent years. While capturing the diverse aspects of this unique artist who has been active in both the design and fine art fields since winning a special selection award at the Japan Advertising Art Exhibition, held by the Japan Advertising Artists Club in 1957, this symposium will reveal the facts and reasons why Tanaami's work is now being reevaluated and becoming popular among all generations.

The panelists include Hiroko Ikegami, pop art specialist and art historian, Professor at The Graduate School of Humanities, Osaka University; Tabaimo, artist and a former student of Tanaami's at Kyoto University of Art and Design; Mariko Asabuki, novelist, who has published a short story about Tanaami this summer; and Julian Ross, Japanese experimental film researcher and assistant professor at Leiden University participating via on-line. This symposium will be an opportunity to reconsider the current Keiichi Tanaami.
