About Art Commons
The Art Commons is a database that has accumulated information on exhibitions since 2007, when the National Art Center, Tokyo opened. With the cooperation of more than 1,000 museums, art organizations, and galleries in Japan, information on more than 60,000 exhibitions can be searched. In addition, we have been providing data to the National Diet Library's “Japan Search” since FY2021.
Main features
- Since 2007, we have been collecting exhibition outline and information on workshops and other events related to special and collection exhibitions. This information is based on calendars, press releases, provisional flyers, main flyers, and websites provided by museums, art organizations, and galleries.
- In principle, textual information from the source materials is collected. In addition to searching by exhibition title, museum, gallery, or artist name, you can also search by keywords related to different topics: art, architecture, design, fashion, photography, picture books, manga, and animation. It enables efficiently browsing the information contained in the exhibition outline, and which may lead to your further research using the NACT Library Online Catalog (OPAC) and other databases.
- The data is updated every week based on the source information to accumulate ongoing data. Search is available by prefecture and year of the exhibition.
