为了第一步敲定结构和色彩而制作色指定原画，这是田名网在制作作品方面的特点。对于田名网而言，色指定原画就是将每1幅均为手工绘制的绘画作品的黑白缩小复印件组合在一起的拼贴，与DIC的样本色卡粘贴在排版用纸等上，也就是原稿。助手会以这幅原画为基础，将绘画作品扫描到电脑中，生成数据。这是以平面设计师身份出道的田名网独有的制作方法，可以说，在完成色指定原画时，田名网的脑海中已经浮现出了作品的完成形态。绘画有时会重复使用在其他作品中，这些对于田名网而言都会变为巨大的数据库，而被储存起来。
