Image Forum Monthly

Nobuhiro Kawanaka and Katsue Tomiyama established Image Forum in 1977 as a platform for distributing and screening experimental films. In 1980 they launched the magazine Image Forum Monthly, which showcased a wide range of films, from experimental to commercial, including international cinema. Tanaami’s film works were frequently discussed in the publication. Apart from a hiatus due to illness, he oversaw all of its cover designs over a span of seven years, from the preparatory issue through the 82nd issue in May 1987. His designs featured collages incorporating film stills, 1980s drawings and sculptures with motifs such as boxing and pine trees, and the collage series Hollywood Stardust, and the magazine covers closely mirror the evolution of Tanaami’s art during this period.
